Build A Website: For What Purpose?
In order to know what kind of website you want to create, you have to know what the purpose of that website is.
Is it a static website with some basic functionality? Some websites only have a few pages:
- Homepage
- Privacy Policy
- About
- Contact
- And some other pages…
A website that has the purpose of only sharing information with the visitors has a static homepage and a menu with the above shown pages. Other websites that offer services have some kind of interactivity.
For instance:
- a merchant website offers a shopping cart in which the visitor can put items.
- a website that offers tools to check pagerank, backlinks, etc…
- a video website that broadcasts videos gives the visitor the opportunity to find relevant videos and click some buttons.
- websites with forums
- websites with a chat facility
- and there are many more kinds of interactivity possible on websites…
just to give some examples. Those websites use scripts to make the interactivity with the visitor possible.
In fact, most scripts for most purposes can be added to any static website at any time.
And what about weblogs?
The official term is WEBLOG, but most people only know the word BLOG.
A blog has the purpose to create a kind of journal for readers andĀ to add new posts on a regular basis. Most blog platforms areĀ very flexible and give the publisher the ability to personalize the look and feel without much effort.
In fact a blog can be changed in such a way that it looks like a professionally designed website. Many online merchants and Internet Marketers have discovered the blogging platform and don’t bother anymore using the services of a professional web designer, because the cost is much lower and it is an easy DO-It-Yourself way to offer products and services to the public.
